Every year, when the magnolias come out, I get hooked on pink. It always amazes me the way this powerful pink expression of nature emerges from such insignificant, grey, fluffy sepals on spindly naked twigs. I love the waxy petals, I love the changing shape of the bud from a tight tulip to a voluptuous ball and then the unfolding to the intricate design of that particular variety. The cherry blossoms make a brief appearance before the queen of flowers, the rose, announces that Spring has finally arrived. I love the mystery, I’m reassured by the constancy and I’m grateful for the majesty of nature’s pinks.
